Your Store Manager – Rose Moana
Store Manager Rose Moana arrived in Australia in 2008 from New Zealand and has a background in distribution. She started at the original Beerwah IGA in 2008 as a store person before it was demolished to make way for the current complex. Rose then moved up to becoming Dairy Manager and then Store Manager for 12 months at the temporary IGA in Simpson Street while the new the store was under construction.
Rose has built up a friendly rapport and shared history with many of her customers over the years. She has been privileged to share in the milestones of their life such as the joys of new births. “I just love my customers. They are friendly and are always pleased to see us plus they always have great stories to tell!” Rose genuinely loves her job and enjoys coming to work every day. “I want to make customers happy and I’m here every day for them. It’s a fantastic place to work – right from the top at head-office all the way through to fellow staff members because we all share the same values; customer focus, team work, passion, loyalty, honesty and respect.”
The grocery section has over an incredible 20,000 lines that are carried. Running the grocery section requires a lot of organisation and really good stock control – happily skills that Rose excels at. Store presentation is also a key priority and many hours are spent tidying cleaning and stacking shelves. Rose and her staff are determined to present the best store possible and put a lot of time and effort into the presentation that reflects their pride in the store.
Your Produce Manager – Brendan Allen
IGA Beerwah produce manager Brendan Allen has a real enthusiasm for produce. Starting his retail career in his mid-teens, he moved into produce at an early age and has spent over 11 years working for the IGA group. He has immersed himself in the local communities of Mooloolah, Evans Heads and Noosa by both living and working in the areas. He is finally back home in Beerwah having originally grown up in the hinterland, where his family also have strong community ties.
Brendan enjoys that his work involves new experiences everyday and he takes particular pride in the stores displays. “Displays are like painting a picture – it’s really great to stand back and see the finished product,” Brendan said. While products change seasonally, different promotions require eye-catching displays on a regular basis. Brendan brings his visual display skills to the store at Beerwah; having won a number of previous awards for best produce department in regional Queensland.
Since the IGA at Beerwah has opened just eight months ago, Brendan and his department have already won ‘Best in Queensland’ awards for his Mango and Aussie Apple promotions and are currently in the running for the best Aussie Banana display. Brendan loves that a lot of the produce he sells is locally grown and he actively sources quality local product. He really enjoys interacting with the locals and sharing his product knowledge with customers and hopes “to spark a passion for fresh produce with them”. “We have a great team in produce and I love coming into work every day and I am just so proud to be a part of IGA Beerwah.”
Your Deli Manager – Zoe Miles
IGA Beerwah Deli Manager, Zoe Miles, was born and bred here in the beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland. She grew up in Woodford and only recently moved to Elimbah since building a house there. Zoe has worked in retail since her mid-teens and is coming up to her seventh year with the IGA group; having also worked at the Caboolture and North Lakes stores. Zoe has been in management for four years and has a great team to work with. She likes how each IGA is different yet each one is totally committed and dedicated to their local communities.
Originally starting in the Deli section, Zoe worked her way up to second-in-charge and then onto her position as manager, with nine staff working in the section. Zoe loves the customer interaction and enjoys building a strong rapport with regular customers – some of whom come in daily. “It’s really nice to get a feel for what customers want and we are always happy to source what people are after.”
Currently, some of the most popular lines in the Deli are ham off the bone (they sell over 100kg a week!), Bacon and cabanas. Salads are always popular with 12 to 15 different options to choose from as well as ready meals to go. Local lines are also popular with the Peachester Gold Ham and Maleny and Kenilworth Cheeses highly regarded by customers. “Customers come far and wide to buy our local products, such as deli items from Barry Family Butchers – we really enjoy working with local suppliers as like us they have real pride in their products and their customer service is highly personalised.”
Your Chilled Foods Manager – Mark Wilson
Mark Wilson is the very new Dairy Freezer Department Manager at IGA Beerwah – and he’s only been in the role for one week. But don’t worry – his previous working background includes being a family dairy farmer, and also working at Bega Cheese; so he has firsthand experience in the dairy industry! He has been with the IGA group for four years; working at Beerwah since the new opening (eight months ago), but has also worked at the Cooroy, Glass House and Woodford stores. He grew up in Beerwah, worked away in NSW for some time (13 years) then returned to live here in his childhood area.
Mark also understands how important it is to support the local suppliers – offering customers the Maleny Dairies range, Queensland Yoghurt, Suncoast Eggs and Mountain View Eggs to name a few. Currently studying for his Cert III in Retail, Mark is enjoying learning alongside eight other staff members – it offers a great support network. He believes that is the difference in how working at IGA and being part of a strong team, sets them apart from other supermarkets.
Mark enjoys being given flexibility in his role, creating his own specials, ordering and also training new team members to get them up to speed. With his team he is proud of keeping his section looking at its best and fully stocked for the customers, and also enjoys assisting other departments when time allows. When asked what Mark sees in the future, he says “I am excited and looking forward to expanding my new role – please pop in and let me know your favourite chilled item!”
Your Customer Service Manager – Julie
Beerwah local Julie has spent six years with IGA Beerwah! During this time, her main focus has been in providing exceptional customer service. One of the aspects she particularly enjoys about working at Beerwah IGA is the high level of friendly rapport between staff and customers.
“We know our customer’s names and backgrounds and genuinely enjoy following their life journeys. Some of our customers now bring in their grandkids and you really feel like you are part of the community that follows through outside of the store – we feel a part of people’s family.”
Julie was trained in her role by the previous customer service manager – Gayle Amos – who had been with the company for 21 years. With this solid foundation behind her, Julie and her team always strive to go the extra mile for their customers, ensuring that they leave the store with a smile and walk out happy.
She always looks to handle all customer enquiries to ensure the best possible customer outcomes and is always happy to assist with customer needs – whether that is taking people to the aisle to find stock or assisting elderly or impaired customers or even those with young children to their cars. Julie is keen to make it a fun and happy environment and enjoys training up her staff to reach their full potential and succeed. The team are always looking for ways that they can provide the best service possible.
“It’s all about being friendly and making that connection with customers – we want our customers to feel important and know that we really do care about them”.
Your Bakery Team – Carol Lettres & Jasmine Hywood
Peachester local Carol has been with IGA for seven years, and brings over ten years of customers service experience to her role. She has worked in the produce, deli and bakery departments and really enjoys working in a great team that gets along well and the friendliness of her customers. “We have lovely customers and a lot of them are regulars. We have a lot of our older customers come in for a bit of a chat and we always enjoy taking the time out to talk with them,” says Carol. Carol always likes to help her customers, and always strives to ensure that they leave the store happy. The bakery team are always pleased to search out new lines if requested by customers and to take orders in advance to further assist customers if required.
One of the nicest features of the bakery department is that a number of items such as donuts, sponges, biscuits and bread are baked fresh in house daily. At this time of year fresh bread and hot donuts are very popular!
Jasmine Hywood has been with the IGA group for four years. Previously she was at Mooloolah IGA and joined Beerwah IGA when it opened last October. Jasmine enjoys that she learns new things daily and she has a particular fondness for making deserts such as custard tarts, apple pies and crumble – which are all made fresh. “Our customers are just fantastic and I really enjoy customer service. It’s also pretty good to work in a nice new well laid out store,” says Jasmine.
Make sure you drop into the Bakery department, say hi and try some of their freshly baked items.
